Afër compared with the apps you already use in Albania.

Updated September 2026Tirana, Durrës, Vlorë and other Albanian citiesLexo në shqip

Today most people in Tirana keep one app for food, another for a taxi, a classifieds site for second-hand, and cash for everything else. Afër puts the four in one account with one prepaid wallet and a trust score you can read before you agree to anything. Here is how it lines up against the apps that already exist.

Food delivery

Afër vs Glovo, Wolt and Baboon in Tirana

Glovo, Wolt and Baboon Delivery are the food delivery apps most people in Tirana have installed, and Wolt and Baboon also cover Durrës and Vlorë. They are good at what they do. Afër is not a copy of them; it is the same job done from an account that also pays for your taxi and your second-hand bike.

  • Restaurants publish their own menu and set their own prices, so the price in the app is the price on the wall.
  • The delivery fee, the minimum basket and the restaurant's health certificate are visible before you order.
  • Live status from placed to delivered, with your courier by first name once the food is on the bike.
  • Paid from a prepaid wallet: no card at the door, no change to find.
Taxi

Afër vs VrapOn, Patoko and Speed Taxi

Uber does not operate in Albania and Bolt has no ride-hailing in Tirana, so the market belongs to local apps such as VrapOn, Patoko, Speed Taxi, UPs Taxi and MerrTaxi, most of which connect you to a licensed taxi fleet. Afër Taxi does the same with three differences.

  • Every ride class is priced for your exact trip before you request it, so the fare does not move when you get in.
  • You see the driver's name, the car and a live ETA, and you can share the route with someone who is waiting. SOS is one tap away on every trip.
  • The ride is paid from your wallet, so drivers never handle cash and every receipt is in one place.
Second-hand

Afër vs MerrJep for buying and selling

MerrJep is Albania's best-known classifieds site, and a lot of buying and selling also happens in Facebook groups. Both leave the hard part to you: deciding whether to trust a stranger and how to hand over money. Afër was built around that problem.

  • A public trust score from 0 to 100% on every profile, built from verification, completed transactions, ratings, account age and passed inspections.
  • For phones, cars, furniture or a flat, order an inspector from the listing. They visit, run the checklist and sign a photo report. If it fails, your money comes straight back.
  • Chat stays inside the app with contact details masked, and payment sits in the wallet until the item changes hands.
Questions

Questions people ask before switching

Is Afër an alternative to Glovo or Wolt in Albania?

Yes for food and grocery delivery. Restaurants on Afër list their own menu and prices, you see the delivery fee, minimum and health certificate before ordering, and you pay from a prepaid wallet. The difference is that the same account and wallet also cover taxis, second-hand buying and selling, and paying at a counter.

Does Uber or Bolt work in Tirana?

As of September 2026 Uber does not operate in Albania and Bolt has no ride-hailing service in Tirana. People use local taxi apps such as VrapOn, Patoko, Speed Taxi, UPs Taxi and MerrTaxi. Afër Taxi quotes the fare for your exact trip before you request it, shows the driver and car, shares the live route, and is paid from your wallet so no cash changes hands.

Can I use Afër instead of MerrJep to buy and sell?

For local second-hand items, yes. Every seller on Afër carries a public trust score from 0 to 100%, you can order an inspection of a phone, car or piece of furniture before you pay, chat stays inside the app with contact details masked, and payment is held in the wallet until the item is handed over.

Is Afër free?

Downloading, browsing, chatting and selling to neighbours are free. Businesses pay a transparent fee shown at checkout. An optional inspection has a small price you see before you request it.

Where is Afër available?

Afër launches city by city. Service availability varies by country and city, so the launcher in your app may show a different set of services than the website.

Glovo, Wolt, Baboon, Bolt, Uber, VrapOn, Patoko, Speed Taxi, UPs Taxi, MerrTaxi and MerrJep are trademarks of their respective owners. Afër is not affiliated with any of them. Availability described here reflects public information as of September 2026 and may change.
